Puppy shot with pellet gun, dies
Atlantic Beach, FL (US)

Incident Date: Friday, May 2, 2008
County: Duval

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

A 7-month-old puppy died Friday after being shot with a pellet rifle in Atlantic Beach and police have charged a 21-year-old man in the killing.

Anthony C. Patterson of the 800 block of Stocks Street is charged with cruelty to an animal in the death of Jambi, a female lab/terrier mix. Patterson's family lives next door to the dog owner, Joseph Kemper.

A police report said that Kemper told investigators he took the puppy outside and heard her barking. He said he went to get her a treat to lure her back inside when the dog began to yelp. Jambi then limped to the front porch and fell. The puppy, shot in the side, later died.

Kemper told police the dog was shot because it was bothering Patterson, the report said. Patterson's mother handed police a pellet rifle she retrieved from a bedroom and Patterson was later arrested driving nearby.
