County: Fauquier

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Donald Wayne Bass

Bass was ordered by Judge Underwood of the Fauquier County District Court to forfeit his animals to two local humane societies. The animals seized were dogs, pigeons, goats, doves, hens and other farm animals. All were malnourished and living in very poor conditions. Bass failed to appear at the hearing and was arrested on July 15, 2000 and charged with the 7 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. If convicted he could face 1 year in jail and/or a $2500 fine for each count of animal cruelty.

His trial date is set for October 5, 2000. The court has already found Bass to be an unfit owner and that he never again owns companion animals in the State of Virginia.

Bass was charged with animal cruelty in both 1996 and 1998.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
