A woman charged with multiple counts of felony animal cruelty was released from jail Saturday on $6,000 bail.
Shanay Alexiadreona Sampson, 25, of 3704 Marguerite St. N., Tampa, was accused by police of not properly caring for two adult dogs. Investigators also found the decomposing carcasses of four 6-week-old puppies at her home, according to an arrest report.
A neighbor called authorities Friday, reporting a bad smell coming from Sampson's home. A male pit bull was found chained in the backyard with no food, water or shelter, the arrest report said. The dog, which had scabs and scars covering its face and ears, was dehydrated and severely underweight.
A female mixed-breed dog was found locked inside a wooden shed, with no food, water or electricity, police said. The shed was filled with feces and the only ventilation was a half-open window.
Inside a wire crate, police found decomposing puppies on a blanket littered with feces, the arrest report said. The puppies appeared partially eaten by maggots and flies.
Sampson was charged with six counts of animal cruelty and six counts of abandonment of an animal. She told police she moved from the house two weeks ago and returned on Wednesday to feed the dogs, the arrest report said.
