Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

After an extensive investigation into an alleged Dog Fighting Operation, the Prentiss County Sheriff's Department executed a search warrant Saturday night April 12, 2008.

The operation was being conducted at the residence of Jamie Trimble, located at 49 cr 3161 Booneville, MS.

Deputies arrested and charged a total of 19 individuals with charges ranging from being a spectator at a dog fight to organizing a dog fight, which both are felonies.

Several of the individuals arrested were currently on probation or parole from the MS Dept of Corrections.

Deputies were able to execute the search warrant during an actual fight. There were 4 pit bulldogs seized along with $10,000 cash, a four wheeler, several vehicles, a firearm, and other dog fighting related equipment. The fighting pit for the operation was a well built 20 x 20 ft portable device that could be moved to other locations.

The fight being held was well organized and brought people from surrounding counties in to watch. Bond for Jamie Trimble was set at $10,000. The others arrested each have a $5,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing and more arrest are pending. The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics along with the Booneville Police Narcotic Investigator assisted during the search.

Case Updates

Nineteen people face charges stemming from a weekend dog fight in Prentiss County that also resulted in the seizing of thousands of dollars in cash.

Four pit bulls were taken into police custody and are being kept as part of the investigation.

Sheriff Randy Tolar said the sheriff's department had been investigating potential dog fighting for nearly four months at the 49 County Road 3161 residence of Jamie Trimble in the Hills Chapel area.

A search warrant Saturday night paid off for investigators.

"When our guys executed the search warrant, the dogs were actually in the process of fighting," said Tolar. "There were several people there watching the fights and we were able to arrest many of those people."

Because several people fled the scene, Tolar said more arrests may be made.

Deputies seized the four pit bulls, $10,000, a four-wheeler, several other vehicles, a firearm and equipment related to dog fighting. Trimble was charged with organizing a dog fight; the others were charged with being a spectator at a dog fight. Both are felony charges.

The fighting pit was a 20-by-20-foot wooden portable device that could be moved to other locations, according to Tolar. People from as far away as Meridian were arrested in the raid.

"This is a very underground type of crime," said Tolar. "That's why it's so hard to get a handle on it. We had people from all around participating. Dog fighting is big money for these people. In a bust we made several years ago, we had a guy that valued his dog at $30,000."

Bond was set at $10,000 for Trimble and $5,000 for each of the others.

The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics and Booneville's narcotics investigator also were involved in the search.

The sheriff's department charged the following with being a spectator at a dog fight:

- Bart Trimble, 17, of 18B CR 1121, Booneville.
- Bedford Lynn Hargett, 23, of 111 CR 7081, Booneville.

- Brittany Grizzard, 21, of 65 CR 8200, Rienzi.
- Cody Cummings, 20, of 46 CR 1120, Booneville.
- Corey R. Cole, 25, of 1512 Fifth St., Meridian.
- Earl Newby, 39, of 71 CR 210, Walnut.
- James L. Taylor, 31, of 103 West Over, Booneville.
