An investigation into the death of a 6-year-old Rottweiler has shown the dog was poisoned, Carlisle police said.
They said it is believed that something containing battery acid or rat poison was tossed into a fenced-in backyard where the dog lived in the 100 block of West North Street.
The poisoning was discovered when the owner took the ill animal to a veterinarian, police said. The dog lingered a week before dying on Sunday, they said.
