Gina Johnston was found guilty of 18 felony cruelty counts by a 12 man jury on 3-21-08. Nineteen horses were seized from her property in the 1600 block of S. Calhan Highway in Calhan on July 20, 2006.
All of the animals seized were examined by veterinarians, including blood panels. Based on the examinations and the results of the blood panels, the veterinarian reportedly concluded that the horses were all suffering from malnourishment. All of the horses survived their ordeal and have since been adopted into wonderful homes.
The case was investigated primarily by Officers Jamie Norris and Shawn Million who are both Animal Welfare Officers for the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
She will be sentenced for both the 2006 case and the 2007 case on 6-4-08. References- El Paso County Court Case #06CR4213
