Centralia police arrested one man after breaking up a cock fight Sunday.
Roberto Trejo Magallanes, 38, of Centralia, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of animal fighting after police arrived at the site on the 1600 block of Military Road. Five to six other people who were reportedly at the scene fled.
Officers were alerted to the incident after a passer-by had reported suspicious activity, Sgt. Kurt Reichert said.
They found three dead birds and two injured ones in the back of a truck located on the property. There were about 30 other live birds -- 20 of them roosters -- also on the property, Reichert said.
Officers also found spurs and other cock-fighting equipment at the scene.
Animal control officers were expected to move the remaining birds to Lewis County Animal Services today.
Case UpdatesA Centralia man charged with cockfighting has pleaded not guilty. Thirty-eight-year-old Roberto Trejo-Magallanes was arrested Sunday after police found bloody, dead and dying roosters in his yard.
A woman walking her dog Sunday saw what looked like two males holding roosters and shoving them toward each other, but when officers arrived, five or six individuals who had been standing in a circle scattered.
Trejo-Magallanes is charged with animal fighting and five counts of first-degree animal cruelty. Each is a class C felony, punishable by a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. | Source: KOMO-TV - April 11, 2008 Update posted on Apr 12, 2008 - 12:23AM |
