Fourteen animals dead, poison suspected
Duvall, WA (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Apr 3, 2008
County: King

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Fourteen dead animals, including a dog, seven goats and several birds, have been found at the bottom of a hill north of Duvall, according to the Pasado's Safe Haven animal-rights group.

A survey crew working in the area spotted the animals Thursday morning and called Pasado's last night. The Monroe animal-rights group began documenting the scene this morning.

Susan Michaels, co-founder of Pasado's, says she thinks the animals were poisoned and then dumped because they have no signs of trauma and didn't appear to be diseased or malnourished.

King County Animal Care and Control will lead the investigation, and an officer was headed out to the scene this afternoon, said Manager Al Dams.

The animals were left at the bottom of a hill, about 40 feet off Northeast Cherry Valley Road. By the way the bodies are arranged, it appears someone threw the bodies down the hill, said Kim Koon, a Pasado's investigator.

"This is a sick and cowardly act to throw your animals off the side of the road," she said.

The animals include a Catahoula mix dog that appeared to be about 5 years old, seven goats, including a 6-month-old and a newborn with the umbilical cord still attached, two chickens, three ducks and a turkey.

Pasado's is offering a $5,000 reward for information about who left the animals and is posting fliers in the Duvall area this afternoon.
