A school teacher from Anderson Township suspected of pouring antifreeze in a container in her backyard faces a charge of poisoning animals.   Marilou Petrie, 51, of 1310 Tallberry Drive, was charged following an investigation by the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

She is scheduled to appear in Hamilton County Municipal Court on June 12. The suspected antifreeze was removed from Ms. Petrie's yard last week and is being analyzed.

There are no indications any animals have died, authorities said.

Ms. Petrie apparently put what officials believe to be antifreeze out because she was told by a physician the presence of animals could be harmful to her health, they said.

She was charged after attempts failed to work out the problem. The SPCA began its investigation following complaints from neighbors, said SPCA General Manager Harold Dates.

"We had sent a couple of people out to communicate with the owner of the property.  Two of our employees talked with her on the telephone and explained it was against the law to leave a substance out that could poison animals.  She didn't seem to be heeding our warnings," Dates said.  "We felt that before any animal was killed, we would remove the substance."
