A Watervliet man is facing felony animal cruelty charges under Buster's Law.

Brian Petrilak, 28, was arrested Friday by the Watervliet Police Department.

Police said Petrilak admitted he kicked a friend's cat after it urinated on his lap.

The investigation began when the owner brought her cat to the Shaker Veterinary Hospital because it was having trouble breathing. The cat had a broken sternum, several broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

The cat died a short time later.

Petrilak is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals. He was arraigned and sent to Albany County Jail without bail.
