St. Joseph County police examined a dog that was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon on Pine View Drive just southwest of South Bend.

According to police, a woman was walking her dog when it was shot. The dog was not on a leash.

Police questioned the man who owns the property, but he told police he did not shoot the dog.

The owners of the dog said the man was responsible and that he was hunting at the time in a wooded area where the dog was.

No arrests were made.

The family who lost the dog lives in a subdivision that borders larger lots with a more rural feel along Pear Road.
