Bronx, NY (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Mar 6, 2008
County: Bronx

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jose Semprit

Humane Law Enforcement agents of the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) arrested Bronx resident Jose Semprit on March 6 for misdemeanor animal cruelty.

Mr. Semprit, 61, was arrested by ASPCA Special Agent Kristi Adams after a concerned neighbor brought Semprit's 10-month-old pit bull puppy to New York City Animal Care and Control. The puppy's right hind leg had been severed, and resulting injuries had gone untreated.

The dog, renamed Georgie, was later taken to the ASPCA's Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital, where veterinarians treated the wounds. Georgie is currently recuperating in a foster home.

Mr. Semprit is charged with one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty and faces up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
