Deputies say they are looking for the owner of the ranch where 32 bison were gunned down earlier this week.
Park County Sheriff Fred Wegener says they cannot find the owner or the caretaker of the Hawn ranch where the majority of the bison were found dead on Thursday.
Wegener believes a group gunned down the bison over the course of several days in an area of Park County near Guffey. Wegener says his department interviewed 12 people on Thursday and many told investigators they believed they had permission to shoot the bison.
Investigators and the owner of the bison were on the scene Friday removing carcasses and recovering evidence. Some of the bison had been harvested, which means the meat and hide had been taken.
The bison were part of a private herd owned by the Downare family, which also owns the Elk Mountain Cattle Company.
Investigators have not filed any charges in the case, but possible charges include aggravated cruelty to animals, theft of livestock and trespassing. References« CO State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Park County, CO
