Authorities say Valerie Green of Thaxton has a reputation for hoarding animals and not taking proper care of them.

The Bedford County Humane Society is one of many groups hoping to do something about it. There have been charges filed. According to the Commonwealth's Attorney, Valerie Green was charged with several counts of animal neglect and cruelty last year, but Green was given a second chance... one that the Bedford Humane Society has come to regret.

Stacey Woodford, Bedford Humane Society - "Her animals had ringworm and she was unable to get them under control."

Stacey Woodford is president of the Bedford Humane Society and says the problem with Valerie Green and her animals had escalated since she was first charged last March.

Woodford - "The more we assisted the worse things got. It never stopped. There were more animals and more sickness and more disease."

So bad in fact that several animals including this cat had to undergo major medical care.

After that incident Green was ordered to only have 25 animals and to keep them healthy. She also waived her right to a search and seizure by Animal Control. But when they went back they found more animals.

Woodford - "They seized all the animals and took them into their custody."

Bedford Commonwealth Attorney Randy Krantz says Green is now no longer allowed to have any animals in her possession. But Woodford says the Humane Society has learned she does.

Woodford - "Recently, we've discovered there are more animals. She has two animals at a local vet having them treated for upper respiratory and ringworm."

All of this is currently under investigation with Animal Control.

Mike Dorsey, Bedford Co. Asst. Admin. - "We've asked Animal Control to work with the Commonwealth's Attorney and to coordinate that investigation I know Animal Control is responding to the complaint."

Green will be back in court on June 16th facing these four counts of animal cruelty... if found guilty she could face a maximum of two years in jail.

This is not the first time Green has been in trouble for animal cruelty and neglect. She was convicted in Franklin County a few years back in a similar case. She could also face charges in Campbell County.
