Authorities cited a man Friday on suspicion of animal cruelty in what they say was a cockfighting operation in the Mira Loma area, a Riverside County Department of Animal Services news release said.
Riverside County sheriff's deputies went to a property in the 11600 block of Holmes Ave. at about 2:35 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of cockfighting, the release stated.
Deputies found 113 live roosters, seven dead roosters and a makeshift arena, the release stated.
The owner of the roosters gave the live birds to Animal Services, which euthanized them, the release stated.
Augustine Palacios was issued the citation, the release stated.
An Animal Services sergeant found a loaded firearm on the property that had been reported stolen from Los Angeles County in 1994, the release stated. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map
