Dog kicked into wall, resulting in death
Newtown, PA (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Mar 4, 2008
County: Bucks

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Devon Farro

A 19-year-old college student has been charged with killing his girlfriend's family dog earlier this month in her Newtown Township home, according to police.

Devon Farro, of Danby Lane in Middletown, faces a charge of cruelty to animals in connection with the March 4 incident, police said Thursday.

According to a press release, Farro was visiting his 16-year-old girlfriend at her home in the Newtown Grant development that Monday night.

The girl called her parents about 7:40 p.m. because the family's Maltese - a small "toy" dog - wasn't moving and was gasping for air, according to police. The dog was taken to an emergency veterinarian and died a short time later.

Family members later told police that Farro claimed he'd walked into a room, turned on the light and the dog ran head first into the wall. But when police interviewed Farro, he told officers that he'd kicked the dog as it ran past him and the dog's head then struck the wall.

"I didn't really kick him that hard," Farro was quoted saying in the press release. "I didn't mean to kill him."

A veterinarian took an X-ray of the dog's skull and said that the dog's injuries could not have been caused by running into the wall under its own power, police said.

Further information was not available Thursday night.
