more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Disposition: Convicted

Defendants/Suspects:
» Lauren Roy
» Colleen Roy

A Portage la Prairie area couple has been fined 95 hundred dollars for leaving a horse to suffer with an old halter on its head.

Colleen and Lauren Roy were handed the fine by a judge after they pleaded guilty to intentionally inflicting harm on their horse and not providing medical care.

Court heard a halter was placed on the animal's head when it was young but was left on the bay mare while it grew to its full size. The horse suffered for several months as the object dug down to its bone and flesh.

The horse was seized and treated by Provincial officials following a complaint to the RCMP in September 2006.

The Roy's were also given a 25 hundred dollar vet bill from the government.
