The Sheriff's Animal Cruelty Hotline received a tip regarding a case in which Glendale resident Elizabeth Ruby Valdez, 52, was reportedly not providing medical attention to a dog with a serious injury to her left front paw.
Angel's injured paw had exposing tissue and bones and she was not able to bear any weight on her paw.
Valdez said that she couldn't afford to help Angel and then gave her to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Angel was taken to an animal hospital for treatment, but amputation of her paw was necessary because of the extensive trauma.
Valdez was arrested and charged with 1 count of Animal Cruelty for failure to provide medical treatment.
"I am continuing my crack down on animal abuse," says Sheriff Arpaio. "We arrest and book into the jail everyone suspected of animal cruelty, no matter who they might be."
