Officials have confiscated dozens of dogs at a Monroe puppy mill. According to officials, the animals were found to be living in deplorable conditions and most are in need of a new home.
Channel 3 Eyewitness News reporter Hena Daniels reported that 26 dogs were removed from what appeared to be a typical suburban home.
Officials said they discovered pure-breed Bijons with scratches and cuts, pregnant lhasa apsos and boxers that had never been on a leash before. In addition they said a few of dogs are need of medical attention.
"The place is a nightmare. You can't get within 10 feet without being aware of their conditions," said Fred Acker, of the SPCA, referring to the puppy mill.
Acker said the owner of the puppy mill has been breeding the dogs for years, until she went to a nursing home. Her son called the SPCA hoping to do the right thing.
"They deserve more than to live just for breeding over and over again. They need a family," said Acker.
A nonprofit organization has partnered with the Monroe SPCA to provide medical treatment to the animals. Officials said the dogs will be available for adoption at the end of March.
Those interested in adopting one of the dogs are asked to call the Monroe SPCA at 203-445-9978. References |
