Dog severely neglected, grapefruit-sized tumor
Surrey, BC (CA)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Mar 4, 2008

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

The SPCA wants to find the owner of a starving, emaciated female pit bull found wandering in the 14400-block 86th Avenue in the Fleetwood area of Surrey.

The tan-coloured dog, which had recently had a litter of puppies, was suffering from mastitis and had a tumour the size of a grapefruit dangling from her abdominal area. "I don't understand how a person can allow an animal to starve and suffer like this," said Marcie Moriarty, general manager of cruelty investigations for the B.C. SPCA.

The pit bull was picked up by an American couple Tuesday and taken to the SPCA's Surrey branch. The dog was euthanized after a veterinarian determined that it was in "critical distress."

Anyone with information on the pit bull is asked to call the SPCA at 604-647-1318 or 604-597-5655.
