It's a crime that didn't harm a person, but is sure to cause outrage in the community. The Fayette County Animal Control staff is seeking the public's assistance in finding a man who abandoned and ran over a litter of puppies near Ga. Highway 314.

On Feb. 17, at approximately 11 a.m. a white male was reportedly seen abandoning a box containing four puppies on White Road, near Hwy. 314. While fleeing the scene, the driver ran over one of the four puppies, inflicting severe injuries. The Fayette County Animal Control staff quickly responded to the scene and reported the animal sustained serious injuries and is in critical condition at a local veterinarian.

The man who allegedly abandoned the animals was said to be driving an older model green Jeep Cherokee that has several dents. The box containing the puppies had a Maryland address, a Miami address and writing in Spanish.

The 12-week-old dogs are boxer mixes, primarily light brown in color, with some black and white markings.

Deliberately releasing a dog with the intention of leaving it in a public or private establishment without consent is a misdemeanor under Georgia law. Any person found violating this law is subject to a fine of $1,000 and up to three months in jail per offense.
