A Warren County man will answer charges next week that he shot and killed a cat in his yard, Warren County sheriff's deputies said.

Michael S. Monroe, 38, of Shaw Road, told the police he shot the cat with a shotgun because it was repeatedly in his yard and caused damage to his property, deputies said. The cat belonged to his neighbor.

Monroe was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, a misdemeanor, deputies said.

Monroe released on an appearance ticket. He is due back in Horicon court Wednesday.
