State police report that someone slaughtered and dumped ewes and lambs in a ditch.

A state police trooper and wildlife division investigators, responding to a report Feb. 6, found a dying ewe under a pile of animal carcasses of slaughtered sheep and aborted lambs and bones and other body parts. No information was immediately available on how long the ewe had been there, or under what circumstances she was dumped with the slaughtered remains.

After investigating the carcasses, the officers cited one man for first-degree animal neglect and another for improperly disposing of the carcasses in a waterway.
