Two pit bulls neglected

An East Ridge man is charged with two counts of animal cruelty. The charges are the result of a month long investigation that ended with the arrest of 29 year old Allen Collins at a home on Small Street. Officers with animal services found a puppy in the backyard in a small wire cage standing in feces, urine and water. The pit bull puppy had no shelter, food or drinkable water. Officers also found a pit bull chained to a stump with a heavy logging chain. The dog was emaciated and needed emergency surgery to save its life.

Collins was taken to the Hamilton County Jail where he made $5000 bond. He will be in East Ridge Municipal Court on February 26th.

East Ridge Animal Services is taking donations to help defray the costs of caring for the dogs.
