Dog beaten with metal pipe
Venice, FL (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Feb 11, 2008
County: Sarasota

Charges: Misdemeanor
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Robert Fredericks

A 47-year-old man told deputies he had a rough day so he hit his dog in the head with a metal pipe and then challenged the animal to a fight.

According to news reports, Robert Fredericks, 800 block of Leeward Road, said his two dogs chewed up paper towels and soiled his floor out of spite, a report said.

The incident happened Monday evening.

A neighbor saw Fredericks hurl the pipe at the dog, which yelped in pain after it was hit. He then chased the dog around yelling, "Come on you want to fight, it's you and me."

Fredericks' other dog ran off and he threw rocks at it, the report said.

Fredericks denied hitting the dogs and said he was "just tormenting them."

When deputies asked about his employment as a handyman, Frederick replied, "When you need something done I can get it done, especially when it comes to dog whipping."

He was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor. He remained in the Sarasota County Jail today with a set bail of $120.
