Officers found and removed 11 roosters today from a home after discovering they had injuries consistent with illegal rooster fighting, law-enforcement authorities said.
At 8:41 a.m., officers on patrol heard crowing from a home in the 7000 block of Ninth Street, near Knott Avenue, and asked the resident if they could go in the back yard, said Buena Park Sgt. William Kohanek. The officers found 11 roosters with injuries possibly resulting from rooster fighting, along with seven hens and 12 chicks. "Eleven roosters were taken and eight had injuries in various stages of healing," Kohanek said. La Habra Animal Control took the roosters, which will be euthanized this afternoon at the Orange County Animal Shelter, Kohanek said.
Gabriel Granados-Galvan, 29, who lives in the home, was cited for misdemeanor possession of fowl and must get rid of the hens and chicks within seven days.
La Habra Animal Control, which serves Buena Park, will continue the investigation and could consider additional misdemeanor charges, Kohanek said. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Orange County, CA
