Duct-taped pit bull found shot on side of road
Del Valle, TX (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Jan 7, 2008
County: Travis

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A pit bull is recovering from being shot at the Town Lake Animal Center.

The dog was found walking down the side of the road in Travis County. It's head and mouth were duct taped closed and it had been shot in the shoulder.

"We were all pretty shocked about it," Dorinda Pulliam of the Town Lake Animal Center said.

"You can see other marks all over the dog so we know that a human did this."

Pulliam said the center sees 5 or 6 pits come in in bad shape every week. Many can speculate that dog fighting is the cause of the abuse. Pulliam said while fighting surely goes on in Austin, catching the culprits is next to impossible because their activity is so underground.

"It's not something that they are going to be casual about, they are experienced at it and they are good at hiding it," Pulliam said.

"Unless someone comes forward and gives us some information, we'll never really know what happened to this dog." Pulliam said.

He'll remain just another sad story, looking for someone to take him home.

The rescued pit bull is on the road to recovery.

Pulliam is scheduling a meeting at the end of the month to form a pit bull task force.

She said the shelter will be focused on improving pit bull rescue in the new year.
