Charges: Misdemeanor Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Karen Delores Howd
A Fowlerville woman is expected to appear March 6 in Livingston County District Court for arraignment on misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and abandonment.
The county prosecutor's office has charged Karen Delores Howd with 16 counts of abandoning or animal cruelty charges.
Animal Control Director Anne Burns said her office received a tip Jan. 16 that numerous animals had been abandoned at a home in the 5600 block of Mason Road.
When authorities arrived, they found 16 dogs - all small breeds, including pugs, Havanese, poodle mixes and Yorkie mixes - either running loose or in kennels.
Burns declined to say whether the dogs were hurt or malnourished, citing the ongoing criminal case.
Officials are seeking court-ordered forfeiture of the animals, which are being housed by Animal Control.
"They are evidence and cannot be adopted or given away until the court matter is resolved," Burns explained. References« MI State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Livingston County, MI
