Puppy beaten to death with hammer Vancouver, BC (CA)Incident Date: Tuesday, Jan 8, 2008
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Kenneth Stuart
A man accused to beating his 15 week old puppy to death with a hammer has pled guilty in provincial court.
28 year old Kenneth Stuart pled guilty to causing undue pain and suffering to a dog, even though he was also charged with unlawfully killing a dog.
The second charge was stayed.
Stuart faces a thousand dollar fine, 30 days in jail and a two-year ban on owning animals.
Marcie Moriarty with the BCSPA says this case shows how animal cruelty laws need to be beefed up.
"Clearly in a case where someone has taken a hammer and smashed-in this dog's head, I personally don't see how 30 days and a thousand dollar fine is any deterrent."
Stuart won't face any jail time because he's been given two-for-one credit for the 22 days he's already served. References
