Case UpdatesA former animal shelter worker charged with two counts of animal cruelty in November was found not guilty following a summary trial Thursday.
Richard A. Huey, 33, of 450 Buchanan Road, Normalville, who is a former employee of the Steve Courson Humane Society in North Union Township, was cleared of two charges he failed to provide adequate care for two dogs at his home.
The hearing was held before Magisterial District Judge Ronald Haggerty.
According to the citations issued by Rebecca McDonald of the Placer Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA), the charges were filed after she found the two dogs neglected at Huey's home in Saltlick Township on Nov. 8.
McDonald said in her report that Huey deprived a Great Dane and a pit bull of "necessary sustenance, drink, veterinary care and access to sanitary shelter."
According to Gene Malosky, director of the animal shelter, Huey was fired from his position at the shelter around the time the charges were filed. What position Huey held at the shelter was not revealed.
Earlier this year, Malosky said he was not aware of the specific details associated with Huey's firing and also added that he had not been convicted of the charges. | Source: Herald Standard - March 20, 2008 Update posted on Mar 21, 2008 - 1:14AM |
