News of the area's goat decapitations has again spread across several states and there's a new reward involved.
The Animal Defense Council, based in Tucson, Ariz., is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the latest brutal act.
"We are sickened and outraged by this blatant act of animal cruelty," said Carmine Cardamone, director of the group.
Although the organization usually deals with legislation and law suits, Cardamone said the Council monitors cases of animal cruelty nationwide.
They're probably best known for their work protecting wild burros and horses in the southwestern states.
Cardamone said he doesn't expect the cases are connected, but the Fort Walton Beach goat decapitations are reminiscent of a California incident where two goats and five birds were found headless on Laguna Beaches in November.
"This is very unusual," Cardamone said of the number of goats that have been found. "I'm at a loss. I've never seen it where there has been a cluster like this."
Four decapitated goats have been found discarded in local neighborhoods since Aug. 26. The most recent was discovered Jan. 13.
The Animal Defense Council previously offered a $500 reward for the two early-December decapitations.
"We are deeply concerned that the person or persons who perpetrated this barbaric crime will commit more ats of animal torture and abuse and will eventually harm people in the community," Cardamone said.
The Animal Defense Council is urging anyone with information to contact the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society at 243-1525. If you have information on this case, please contact: Panhandle Animal Welfare Society 243-1525
