Tiny Kittens Abandoned at Elementary School Reward Offered for Arrest & Conviction of Offender -
A young elementary school child made a startling discovery one chilly morning in Melba several days ago. There, in a cardboard box by the school dumpster, she found 8 tiny kittens only a few days old whose eyes were not even open yet. In the box with the kittens was an open box of rat poison.
Fortunately for these kittens, a concerned individual alerted Northwest Animal Companions (NAC) to the situation. NAC rescued the kittens and placed them in a foster home where they are being bottle-fed every four hours and well cared for.
"The unfortunate part of this situation is that it is completely preventable," said a NAC spokesperson. "Owners taking responsibility for spaying and neutering their pets completely eliminates the chance that their pet will have a part in producing an unwanted litter".
Thankfully, the kittens (Peaches and Cream, Salt and Pepper, Peanut Butter and Jelly, and Pebbles and BamBam) do not appear to have ingested the rat poison. They are still very tiny and are not out of the woods yet, but thanks to NAC volunteers, they have a chance at a growing up healthy and happy. When the kittens are old enough to be adopted, NAC will be looking for special, loving homes for these very special kittens who had a rough start to life.
Animal cruelty, abuse, or abandonment is a misdemeanor in Idaho and is punishable by up to a $5,000 fine and 6 months in jail for a first offense (section 25-3520A, Idaho Code). NAC is offering a $400 reward for the arrest and conviction of the perpetrators of this crime.
