Police in Dayton raided a home after reports said they received information about dogfighting going on there.
Officers served a search warrant on the home at 1221 Albritton Drive.
Reports indicate that officers found "a significant amount of dogfighting paraphernalia."
The home, which sits across from Dunbar High School, has a back yard surrounded by a tall concrete fence. Police sources told News Center 7 that they believe the dogfighting was happening in the confined back yard.
The homeowner, Raymond Burns, 65, was not arrested on dogfighting charges, but he was taken into custody after officers said they found more than six pounds of marijuana in the home.
Police also confiscated 25 guns.
"I like guns, I collect guns," Burns told News Center 7 in an exclusive interview. "Most are shot guns. I hunt."
Burns said the dogfighting allegations are inaccurate and untrue.
"I know I haven't been fighting dogs, and just about everyone who knows me knows I haven't been fighting," Burns said.
He said officers took his four pit bulls and four beagles. He said police also took a treadmill that he admits was used for his pets.
"You gotta walk these dogs. I'm getting a little to old to walk them, so I walk them on the mill," Burns said.
As for the privacy wall, Burns said having a fence isn't illegal. "If I want a tall fence, who is to say that I shouldn't have one? I'm not breaking any law," he said.
Police said dogfighting charges could be filed in the future.
