Albany police and Humane Society officials are investigating the discovery of more than a half-dozen dead dogs, some of them found hanged with their hind feet just off the ground in a wooded area.
Police questioned a 14-year-old boy in connection with the case, but no charges have been filed.
Animal control officers found what was believed to be dog's foot nailed to a tree near the boy's home. Less than half a mile away on the wooded lot, officers found ''quite a few animal parts - skulls and bones,'' said Humane Society director Donna Strickland. In a nearby ditch, the hanging dogs were found, she said.
Lester Strother called police on September 18, 2000, after he found a dog hanging from a low tree branch near his home. It appeared all of the dogs were hung low enough to the ground so that their back legs touched the ground. There were holes scratched into the ground where the dogs had been struggling, Strickland said.
Three bulldogs found chained but alive were recovering at the Albany Humane Shelter. If you have information on this case, please contact: Albany Police Dept. 431-2132
