Alleged: Jeffrey Hetherington
A Phoenix man is facing animal-cruelty charges after his cat was found extremely emaciated and dehydrated.
Sheriff's investigators were called to a grooming salon at the Bethany Animal Hospital in Phoenix where Jeffrey Hetherington had brought his cat for grooming.
Investigators found that the cat was extremely emaciated and dehydrated.
The cat was so extremely matted that it could not move and cried when handled, according to the sheriff's office.
A veterinarian at the animal hospital ordered the pet to be immediately euthanized to prevent further suffering.
According to the Sheriff's Animal Unit, Hetherington told the hospital staff that the cat had been in that condition for more than three months.
Hetherington was booked into the county jail for failing to provide food, water and medical care to his pet. References« AZ State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Maricopa County, AZ
