A man shot and killed an Oxnard family's dog while burglarizing their home Wednesday afternoon as several children hid in the home, police said.

Plice believe the man encountered the dog, a 7-year-old white German shepherd named Zack, in the backyard of the home and shot him during a burglary attempt.
