A dog that had been skinned and shot was found in Murfreesboro today, police said.

Students at the Georgia Career Institute on Commerce Park Drive reported finding the mangled animal in a dumpster, Murfreesboro police spokesman Kyle Evans said.

Police are investigating the incident, looking for the culprit.

"Anybody who would do that to an animal is showing acts of violence and we want to find out who they are, so we can get them what ever help they might need," Evans said. "That's a pretty terrible thing to do."
