Four dogs neglected, left without shelter Cookeville, TN (US)Incident Date: Friday, Nov 30, 2007 County: Putnam
Disposition: Not Charged
Abuser names unreleased
On Nov. 30, Deputy Hunter was told about four small dogs on Indian Hills Road that were being neglected. He began investigating and trying to contact the owners.
On Dec. 3, he went to the residence to check and found "four small dogs standing in the back yard shivering from the cold," he said.
"They were standing near a feed pan. They had no appropriate shelter. There was some of what appeared to be rain water in the water pans. The water pans also contained many leaves, which had blown into the pans over the weekend. The temperature was about 35 degrees and it was windy. The low temperature last night was 31, with high wind and heavy rain."
The deputy left a warning letter for the owners and then returned on Dec. 4 to check again.
He found two dogs this time, both shivering from the cold and with no food and water. He also saw three cats that "appear to live at this residence with no food or water," his report says.
On Dec. 6, the deputy checked again and found "the same two dogs in the cold with no food" and "a very small amount of water in the bottom of a yellow bowl, but it was frozen into ice, so there was no drinking water," the report says.
His investigation into the case continues, Deputy Hunter said. References« TN State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Putnam County, TN
