This animal has lost a limb, and this time the case involves a cat and gun. A water bowl is evidence that a pet lives here.
The blood is evidence of a crime.
"We got a report on Kathy Lane of a cat being shot. We investigated it and found that a cat had been shot with what we believe to be a 22 caliber weapon," says Decatur Police Lt. Dennis Hughes.
He says the cat was taken to the Beltline Animal Clinic.
"The cat had to have one of his legs amputated."
Police say they want this shooter.
"It's in a residential area where someone is firing a handgun. It could have been kids out. It could have been anybody out that could have been struck by this bullet."
Smokey is set to be released to his owners on Monday, but police say whoever shot this tabby may face serious charges.
Hughes says they will push to make that person pay all the vet bills.
The family and some neighbors are raising money for a reward.
