An organic farmer is offering a reward to help find out who's killing his chickens.
Nigel Walker said that three times within two weeks up to three people have driven on dirt roads to open fire on his free-range chickens with shotguns.
Walker is the owner of Eatwell Farms, located near Dixon in an isolated area off the main roads.
Dozens of chickens have been killed and about 200 more have been stolen.
A dog that protected the chickens was also killed -- the animal was hit by a vehicle on a roadway after one of the attacks.
Deputy Jim Currie with the Solano County Sheriff's Office said the theft and slaughter of the birds is a felony.
Eatwell is a certified organic farm. Its proximity to Dixon puts it in the ongoing Medfly quarantine zone, meaning that many fruits and tomatoes cannot be sold.
Walker and his customers have put up a $1,000 reward to help catch the criminals.
The farmer's losses are now as high as $20,000, KCRA 3 reported.
Investigators said a white pickup truck has been identified as a suspect vehicle. References« CA State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Solano County, CA
