The Arizona Humane Society and Silent Witness are offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of whoever is responsible for a horrific case of animal abuse.
On Sunday, a good Samaritan found a seriously injured dog near El Mirage Road and Thunderbird Road.
The person took the 6-year-old female miniature Pinscher the Peoria Emergency Animal Clinic.
PEAC technicians called the Arizona Humane Society, which sent a Emergency Animal Medical Technician to pick up the dog and rush her to AHS' Second Chance Hospital.
Veterinarians determined that the dog's injuries were most likely intentional.
She suffered a total of five apparent stab wounds on both sides of her waist, and a four-inch long laceration across her shoulder blade area.
According the AHS, the cut was so deep that it reached her spine.
Veterinarians believe the animal agonized for 24 to 48 hours before being found by the good Samaritan.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the dog was euthanized.
"Someone out there knows who did this to this helpless animal. Someone not only intentionally hurt her, but also left her to die in the streets. We are asking people to please come forward and contact Silent Witness. Whoever is responsible for this horrible act must be removed from the streets now, before there are any more animal victims - or even human victims," said Denise Cavero-Hann, AHS spokeswoman.
