A mother and her son were walking in Russellville when they discovered a dog tied to railroad tracks and left to die.
Jodie Crenshaw and her 10-year-old son were walking along the tracks when they found an English Setter named Doc. He had been run over by a train after being tied to the tracks.
"My little boy went down there and got a stick and tried prying him out and we couldn't, so I finally reached down, got the name and called Dr. Morrow," Crenshaw said.
The dog's owner, Robert Morrow, was devastated. He said Doc went missing four weeks ago after he escaped from his pen. A second dog, Rose, stayed close by, but Doc apparently wandered into danger.
"He was starting to deteriorate," Morrow said. He'd been there probably since the first day or second day he got out.
Two of Doc's legs were cut off and they feared he would bleed to death.
"It's awful, you know, especially because I've got a 10-year-old boy, so you know that's nothing he should have seen," Crenshaw said.
Doc was tied underneath the rail, and the culprit didn't give him enough slack to escape. Because he was tied on a bridge, he could have hung himself if he'd jumped off. A second dog was also found a hundred yards away tied up the same way.
That's probably part of the thrill of watching the dog in torment," Morrow said.
Now Morrow wants justice for his dog and other pets who could be targeted.
"I don't want that to happen to some other animal," he said. References« AL State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Franklin County, AL
