A Chester man was arrested on Nov 19 on suspicion of nine counts of felony animal neglect.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office was contacted Sunday about seven malnourished and neglected horses southwest of Reynolds.
The person making the report told police two other horses had died in the previous couple of weeks, according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities discovered the remaining horses were malnourished and in poor physical condition. The animals were taken to a yard where they could be treated by a veterinarian.
Despite the vet's efforts, a third horse had to be euthanized Monday morning.
The horses' owner, Jeffery J. Pingel, was arrested and lodged in the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of nine felony counts of animal abandonment and cruel neglect. References « More cases in Jefferson County, NE
