Phoenix, AZ (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Nov 17, 2007
County: Maricopa

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Police are searching for the person who shot a dog and left the animal to die Saturday in Phoenix.

A one-year-old Golden retriever mix was shot at least twice and found bleeding from the chest near the 1000 block of East Southern Avenue, according to a media release from the Arizona Humane Society.

Both the Arizona Humane Society and Silent Witness are offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest or indictment of the person or persons who shot the dog, according to the release.

"It horrifies us to think anyone could do this to an animal," Denise Cavero-Hann, an Arizona Humane Society spokeswoman said in the press release. "The person responsible for this crime must be held responsible."

The Arizona Humane Society Emergency Animal Technicians arrived to find the dog that was suffering from wounds to its left front elbow and chest, according to the release.

The dog was stabilized and taken to the animal hospital. The veterinarians found metal fragments in the dog's chest area and entry and exit wounds to its front left leg. They tried to save the dog, but eventually the animal was euthanized due to serious injuries.
