Cat doused with gasoline, set on fire
Holbrook, NY (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Jan 31, 2007
County: Suffolk

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Henry Terry

A Holbrook man accused of impersonating a police officer was charged with 52 additional crimes on May 28, 2007.

The new charges against 24-year-old Henry Terry, formerly of Laurel Street in Holbrook, range from rape to animal cruelty. Terry was arrested in February for allegedly using counterfeit police uniforms, badges and a patrol car to steal money from people. Now, Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota has charged Terry with a host of crimes unrelated to his original arrest.

"The crimes he committed are chilling," Spota said.

Spota said Terry killed a cat by dousing it in gasoline and setting it on fire. The suspect also raped a 28-year-old woman and conned a man out of $120,000, Spota said. The district attorney also said Terry raped and tortured at least three males, two of which were teens.

Terry allegedly made contact with the rape victims, ages 20, 18 and 15, either in New York City's Greenwich Village or through online chat rooms. Prosecutors said the young men went to Terry's house willingly for sex, but two of them became frightened by his behavior and escaped.

Defense attorney George Dazzo, meanwhile, maintained there's another side to the story.

"I have spoken to my client. He steadfastly maintains his innocence and is anxious to defend himself in court," Dazzo said.

Suffolk police are asking any other victims to come forward and call a special hotline at (631) 853-4232.

Terry is being held without bail.
