Sheriff's deputies say they've arrested a couple for running a suspected puppy mill in rural Madison County.

Deputies say Theodore and Maria Rushing admitted they took in some of the 41 dogs recovered in a remote area near Combs. Deputies say they found one dog dead and dozens living in the cages of a small kennel, looking sick and malnourished. Four dogs have since been euthanized.

Deputies say they believe some of the dogs were stolen.

In the raid, officers say they also found cats, chickens and ducks there without food or water.
