Kitten thrown off bridge, dies
San Antonio, TX (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Oct 24, 2007
County: Bexar

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Daniel Holey

A senior airman from Lackland Air Force Base is accused of throwing a kitten into on-coming traffic, and a patrol officer saw the whole thing.

Officers said 26-year-old Daniel Holey had excuses for what he did.

"I believe he said he dropped it or the cat came out of his hands. But in this particular case, we had an officer witness the whole incident," said Sgt. Gabe Trevino of the San Antonio Police Department.

Police said there's no excuse for what happened to the little kitten early Wednesday morning.

"The officer really wasn't inclined to listen to any kind of excuse. He felt he had probable cause to make the arrest based on what he saw," explained Sgt. Trevino.

The officer said he saw the kitten following Holey on the Brooklyn Avenue Bridge when he bent down, picked it up, and in an underhand throw, tossed it into oncoming traffic on I-35". Sergeant Trevino said the officer quickly came around, saw that the kitten was dead, and immediately went to arrest Holey.

"Ultimately, he was taken into custody. But there was some resistance," added Sgt. Trevino.

Holey, a member of the U.S. Air Force airman faces charges of animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
