A couple in Melrose is facing animal cruelty charges. Investigators seized more than fifty animals from the home of Howard and Virginia Watson.

The Watsons are charged with animal abandonment.

Investigators say the two kept dozens of animals in substandard and conditions and malnourished.

The animals include:
* 21 chickens & roosters
* 13 pigs & hogs
* 6 goats
* 4 rabbits
* 3 horses
* 2 dogs
* 2 geese
* 1 grey parrot

Some of the animals have been placed in other homes. Others are with Animal Control in Green Cove Springs.
