Police were called to a home in Petoskey Friday morning after a call about an injured dog. That call led to a drug investigation lasting more than sixteen hours. Chief Michael Vargo with Petoskey Public Safety says, "Early Friday morning around 1:30 we received a call from a gentleman who had been contacted to go over to a residence and check on a dog from a girl who was out of the area."
When police arrived at the home they found the dog stabbed 13 times. "The inside of the house was covered in blood, it was quite a mess," Vargo said. Veterinarian Pamela Graves says, "Myself and one of my assistants went out to the house. You just wanted to know why someone could do that."
Hours later, police discovered the dog's owner, Michele May, had two outstanding warrants. Police went back to her house to make an arrest and found another man at the home, Carlos Savage, who was also arrested, but on a parole violation. That's when investigators say the two suspects told them about a possible drug crime taking place at the Super 8 Motel. "There was some indication that their was a theft of drugs. We believe the dog may have been attacked in retaliation." Vargo says.
When police arrived at the motel they discovered that the three suspects had checked out. Though shortly after they received a call of a home invasion. "The description of the vehicles and people fit the description of the vehicles that had been selling drugs out of a motel." Vargo added.
Finally, the suspects were tracked down and police say they found two guns and drugs in their vehicles. The three men, Alex Goff, Nathan Davidson and Ryan Lurie, were arrested on drug and weapon charges, as well one count of torturing an animal. Police may still charge May with animal neglect after coming home and then leaving her dog injured. References« MI State Animal Cruelty Map
