Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » John Vieira » Mary Marriott
Two Falkland residents have been charged with animal cruelty following a July raid on their property that saw SPCA officers seize 23 dogs and five horses.
John Vieira and Mary Marriott are both scheduled to appear in court to face charges for causing unnecessary suffering to animals. Vieira also faces charges for breaching a previous court order prohibiting him from possessing animals.
"None of the dogs on site, other than one mother and her pups, had access to water even though the temperatures were in the 30s," said SPCA constable Eric Enkirch in a release. "Most of the dogs were tethered to trees with no access to proper shelter and three of the dogs were suffering from eye infections or signs of old, untreated infections."
One puppy deemed to be in critical distress was euthanized on site.
According to the SPCA, caring homes have been found for most of the dogs and horses seized. References
